The final writing unit of this year for grade 3 is Informational Reports. Students are researching and writing reports related to our PYP Plant Unit. 3R Bake Sale!!! This Friday…

HAVE YOU HEARD THE NEWS? Class 3R has organized a scrumptious (meaning yummy) BAKE SALE!!! The money from the bake sale will go to CCBRT which is an organization that helps people with disabilities. It would be awesome if you came and bought something. We are also trying to get donations. If you are interested in this, then come to I.S.T. Elementary at the 1/2 quad. It is this Friday, the 28^th of September. Thank you for your time!!!

Grade 3 Open House

Thank you for everyone who came to Open House! We had a large turn out for our group presentation and some lovely discussion and dialogue in our small classroom groups. Everyday Math Unit 2 Family Letter

Hello Families! This week we started our second math unit on addition and subtraction. Many of the EM Unit 2 Family Letters we sent home yesterday were blurry. Ramadhan and Eid

Today in Mrs. McKillip’s class, students were treated with a special presentation from Zeenat Thawer on the meaning of Ramadhan and Eid. Many students were already knowledgeable about Ramadhan and Eid! Important facts we contributed to today’s presentation:

What is Ramadhan?
When Muslim’s fast (Ananya, Jakob)
The name of the 9th month of the Muslim calendar (Ayra)
An important time for Mulsim’s to pray (Tanisha)
Right now we’re in the month called Shawwal (Alijawad)

What does the new moon look like?
It almost looks invisible. People have to use telescopes to see it (Jaden)

What kind of things do you think fasting teaches us?
To be more patient (Ayra)

Who should fast?
Compulsory for Muslims age 13 and up (Alaisa)

What is Eid ul Fitr?
End of Ramadhan, sighting of the new moon (Yasmine)
Day for having fun to celebrate the end of fasting (Khushi)
After prayers, people greet each other by saying Eid Mubarak (Ananya)

Our Last Week

It’s hard to believe we have only 5 school days left of third grade. The year has truly flown by!

A few things to remember:

• On Tuesday, June 5, Grades 3, 4, and 5 will be enjoying Fun Sports Day activities from 8 – 11:15. Students should:

1.  Wear their house t-shirts
2.  Remember a hat and/or sunscreen for field activities
3.  Bring a swimsuit and towel for pool activities

Parents are welcome to attend and cheer on the kids.

• Please check through all books at home and return any school/classroom or library books.
• We will have a final assembly on Friday, June 8th at 12 noon. Students who are leaving IST will get a final “Kwaheri” sendoff.
• Report Cards will be distributed to students on Friday, June 8th. If you are leaving town early, you can pick up your child’s report card from the Elementary Office after June 8th.

Many of you donated money to go towards our staff appreciation party. Thank you! Yesterday  after school a delicious meal was provided for us under the covered court. Here teachers, assistants, cleaners, gardeners, and all of the I.S.T. support staff we depend upon each day enjoyed a great time of socializing and eating together. We appreciate your contribution and thank you very much.
