The final writing unit of this year for grade 3 is Informational Reports. Students are researching and writing reports related to our PYP Plant Unit. Here are some websites for kids that have many examples of non-fiction writing. Kids, take a look through them and see if you can get any tips for your writing. Enjoy!

Plantastic/How The World Works: An inquiry into the natural world and its laws; the interaction between the natural world (physical and biological) and human societies; how humans use their understanding of scientific principles; the impact of scientific and technological advances on society and on the environment.

This unit is an inquiry into:
• Plant growth and adaptation
• How plants help people
• How science and technology have developed our use of plants

Students will continue their exploration of the world using virtual tools called simulations. At the start of this unit students explored the world of plants, making decisions as a wild or farm plant in order to survive in the simulation Extinct! Are you smarter than a plant? Students are now looking at how farmers in Tanzania and other developing countries use plants as crops. Students will expand on what they have learned about plants using the online application 3rd World Farmer; a simulation tool to learn about crops, farming and possible hardships people endure in developing parts of the world.

Already, students have engaged in serious discussion about the perspective of farmers and the decisions they must make. We invite you to join our discussion with your comments, questions and ideas.

Monday 25th March – Parents receive emails with use names and passwords. Schedule posted on ASA Blog for viewing

Wednesday 27th March – Sign-up opens
Sign-up for activities from the Elementary Campus Activities Blog.

Wednesday 3rd April – Sign-up closes

Wednesday 10th April – Parents receive email with confirmed activities.

Monday 15th April – Session three activities start and run for six weeks.

Grade 1 – 12.20pm to 1.40pm

Please make sure your child has their swim things (and house T-shirts for Grade 3-5)
