Grade 3 Poems

Grade 3 has started the new year off in poetic style! We’re learning how to write, read and understand different styles of poems. One type of poetry is the acrostic poem. An acrostic poem in which the first letters of each line when read vertically spell out a word which is the subject of the poem. They seem easy to write at first glance but it can be tricky to write an acrostic poem that makes sense!

Another kind of poetry we enjoy is the cinquain poem. There are two different styles grade 3 is looking at: word-count cinquain and syllable-count cinquain.

Both styles have a total of five lines.

Below are a few examples we wanted to share with you. We hope you enjoy them and are inspired to start writing your own poetry!
