Who We Are? Body Systems Parent Letter

Hello Grade 3 Parents,

School is underway and the students are learning all about the human body and the systems that work together to keep us alive. Our Key Concepts are: How do the body systems work? and Why is our body made up of different systems?

Throughout this unit, it would be wonderful if you could engage your child in conversations about the body systems. Ask them what they learned, what they find interesting or what they want to know more about. In addition, the vocabulary for this unit is extremely challenging, especially for English language learners, so below is a list of words associated with each body system that we will study.

Please feel free to contact us if you see any independent action happening at home related to this unit. For example, your child’s eating healthier food, trying to find their pulse, or discussing the digestive system at the dinner table. If so, email us! We would love to hear about it.

Lastly, if you have any additional resources that we could use during this unit, please contact us. Are you a nurse or doctor and would you like to present information to grade 3 about your job? Do you have models, books or other items at home relating to our body systems that you could send in? Do you have stethoscopes that you could share with us for an afternoon? If so, we would love to include these things from home into our unit, so contact your child’s teacher.
