RAK Week

11/02/2013

indexToday starts RAK Week at IST. What is RAK Week you ask? It is a week where we spend time performing Random Acts of Kindness.  A random act of kindness is a selfless act performed by a person or people wishing to either assist or cheer up an individual person or people. Teachers, staff and students are participating and it should be a lovely week. Please discuss this at home and send an email to your child’s teacher if you see any action taken outside of school as a result of RAK Week. We would love to hear how it is going outside of the school setting. If you want to participate and pass on the kindness you can find ideas at the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation website but remember, all it takes is a smile.

Ananya Takes Action

My Business Day at Oyster Bay Shopping Center
Hi! I’m Ananya and one day I went to earn money by applying henna. It was at the “Oyster Bay Shopping Center.” I had lots of fun, along with that I learned a lot, too.
I had a partner. She is my best friend. She also lives in the same apartment in which I live. Her name is Shifa. Shifa is even a bit better than me (at applying henna.) In this way she helped out, a lot.
On our business day we got so many different types of customers. We had to go call them. When we did, most said no. Some replied “maybe later.” Quite a few said “yes”. Some of our customers were IST kids or parents. They read it was for charity, so they let us keep the change. A few of them were school friends. In the end, we gave some KIDS small candies. When we were done putting henna for them, they seemed happy and surprised. “How can so little kids, apply so pretty henna?!” some customers must have wondered.
In the beginning, I was very nervous. “Who’d come to get henna? We’re only kids, right?” I wondered. No one was coming to our henna salon. After a while, my mom said, “Why don’t you guys go CALL some customers? No one will just come to you magically.” I was shy, but I knew, if I don’t get people, I won’t earn money. I started calling customers. By the end of the day, we were exhausted, but proud. And like all sayings, our hard work paid off! We got ice – cream treats! It was a splendid day!
